Antidepressants are more effective than placebo for treating depression but some do the job better than others, a meta-analysis suggests.

Comparing 21 commonly used antidepressants, the UK study covering 522 randomised, controlled trials concludes that all are more effective than placebo for the short-term treatment of acute depression in adults, with effectiveness ranging from small to moderate for different drugs.
