Tobacco burden to be carried for a century

US-led researchers surveyed almost 250,000 people from 14 countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay and Vietnam.
They found that 49% of men and 11% of women used tobacco, with 64% of smokers using manufactured cigarettes.
China, where more than half of all men smoke, had the highest number of tobacco users, followed by India.
“In the absence of effective actions,
