Toxoplasmosis food-chain risk unknown

While pregnant women and people who are immunocompromised are warned about the disease in relation to contact with cats, an unknown proportion of the country’s thousands of annual toxoplasmosis cases are due to food, they say.

A report to the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) by the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food (ACMSF) has called for a review of current advice, saying there is virtually no data available on the presence of the parasite Toxoplasma gondii in farm animals.
