tPA effective in real life settings: study

Thrombolytic therapy has similar results in daily clinical practice as has been shown in randomised trials, say the German authors of a large, population-based study.

The research looked at the treatment of 84,000 patients admitted for acute ischaemic stroke at hospitals in the state of Baden-Württemberg, around 14% of whom were treated with tPA.

The therapy was associated with better outcomes in a time-dependent pattern, the researchers from the University of Heidelberg found.
