Train GPs to better treat child abuse patients

TO help turn this serious issue around, GPs, who play a vital role in improving the lives of those affected, need to be fully informed and trained in this area.

Child sexual abuse is just one cause of complex trauma — other causes include emotional and physical abuse, neglect, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, having a parent who abuses substance, as well as separation, grief and loss.

Complex trauma, rather than of a single incident, is often prolonged, repeated and extreme.
