Traumatic brain injury ups mortality risk
The Swedish study in 2300 TBI patients who died prematurely at least six months after their injury showed their mortality rates were three times higher than the general population, and more than twice as high when compared with unaffected siblings.
Suicide and assault rates in TBI patients were more than twice as high as sibling controls.
Risk of all-cause mortality, suicide and fatal injuries were at least double population controls even when psychiatric morbidity was excluded.
