Trial reveals statin link to aggression

STATINS appear to increase aggression in postmenopausal women but reduce it in men, according to the first randomised controlled trial to examine the issue.

US researchers looked at aggressive behaviour among 692 men older than 20 and 324 surgically or chronologically postmenopausal women randomised to a statin or placebo. 

 Women on statins typically became more aggressive, particularly those older than 45, and men on statins typically became less aggressive, the researchers say.
