Two in the running for AMA presidency

Two names will be put forward this month to become the next president of the AMA: neurosurgeon Associate Professor Brian Owler and emergency physician Professor Geoff Dobb.

The deadline for nominations for the job formally close at the end of this week, although few are expecting a last-minute entry from another doctor.

The vote takes place on 25 May at the AMA's national conference in Canberra.

Whoever succeeds in the election will have to tackle long-running membership concerns in the association, and devise ways to attract younger doctors into its fold.
