Type 1 keeps children awake at night

Many children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) have impaired daytime functioning because of  poor sleeping habits, according to Australian research.

The study shows they have higher frequency of sleep problems compared with healthy controls. The main issues are sleep initiation and maintenance, sleep-wake transition and daytime sleepiness.

They also have reduced executive functioning, mental flexibility and ability to modulate emotions, leading to poor behavioural regulation.
