Typhoid cases confirmed on Christmas Is
An Immigration Department spokesman told MO the two patients “arrived on separate boats” and it appeared they were infected before embarking for Australia.
One patient was being treated under quarantine on the island while the other had since been flown to an Australian hospital.
“The department can confirm that two recent irregular maritime arrivals at Christmas Island have been diagnosed with typhoid fever,” the spokesman said.
“Everyone is screened within 48 to 72 hours of arrival and anyone showing symptoms is quarantined and treated immediately, as happened with both
