Unleashed dogs prevent kids’ physical activity
Interviews with 94 mothers and their children, aged 6–11, revealed the usual suspects: limited recreation facilities and parks, high levels of traffic and graffiti, heat/bad weather and lack of street lights were also cited.
Access to yards and outdoor patio spaces increased the likelihood of physical activity.
Concern over dogs was higher among girls than boys.
Around 40% of US-born children reported ‘not having energy’ as a barrier, significantly more than the 12% of children born in Mexico.
