Urologists embrace active surveillance in prostate cancer

One third of Australians with low-risk prostate cancer are now managed with "active surveillance", under a drive to avoid unnecessary over-treatment, new data show.

Latest figures from Victoria's Prostate Cancer Registry suggest active surveillance is being "widely embraced" by Australian urologists, with 36% of low-risk patients initially managed in this way.
