Variation in prescribing for COPD
As there can be uncertainty about the optimum dose, researchers carried out a study of prescribing in The Netherlands.
A total of 166 GPs and trainees completed a questionnaire on four clinical scenarios involving exacerbations.
Although nearly all the GPs said they would prescribe prednisolone 30mg daily, the duration of treatment varied. The most common course was one week’s treatment, but five days was often prescribed for mild exacerbations.
