Vasectomy ups prostate cancer risk

Men who have had a vasectomy face an increased risk of prostate cancer, according to a new study.

Those with a history of vasectomy have a 10% increased risk of prostate cancer, and a 19% higher risk of dying from the disease, finds the study of nearly 50,000 U.S. men published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

The cumulative incidence of lethal prostate cancer among men with vasectomy during a 24-year follow-up was 1.6%.
