Vibrating capsule opens the way
An oral capsule programmed to vibrate once it hits the colon could bring relief to people suffering from chronic constipation, say Israeli researchers.
In a pilot study, 26 patients with either chronic idiopathic constipation or constipation-predominant IBS swallowed a capsule twice a week for the trial duration.
Over the study period the number of bowel movements per week doubled, the researchers from the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center found.
Two patients complained of abdominal pain which resolved spontaneously during the trial, but no serious side effects were noted.
