Victorian bushfires linked with CVD

Particulate matter from bushfires is associated with a rise in cases of out-of hospital cardiac arrests a study based on the 2006/2007 Victorian bushfires suggests.

An increase of 9 micrograms/cubic metre in PM 2.5 (fine particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter) is associated with a 7% increase in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests, the authors from Monash University, CSIRO and Ambulance Victoria report.
