Virilisation of children sparks call for topical testosterone warning
They suggest a black box warning should be considered for topical androgen products.
The case of a two-year-old girl who presented to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne last year with an 18-month history of body odour and public hair development is reported in a letter to the MJA published today.
Her father was using testosterone gel on his forearms and the child’s virilisation resolved after he changed his method of administration. He had not been informed of the risk.
