Vitamin D levels high in sunny Qld: study

The study in 101 pregnant women with either pre-existing or gestational diabetes in antenatal care at Cairns Base Hospital showed 81% had sufficient vitamin D levels, 12% had insufficiency and 7% were deficient.

This compares with the general population of pregnant women in Far North Queensland, of which 93% had sufficient vitamin D levels.

The authors said the findings contrast with studies in the southern states, which showed that more than half of the antenatal population in some regions testing insufficient or deficient for vitamin D.
