Weight gain at young age ups diabetes risk

A meta-analysis of 15 studies showed the relative risk of type 2 diabetes was increased by three times for every 5kg/m2 BMI gained between the ages of 18 and 24, compared to a twofold increased risk for weight gained after 25, though the difference was not statistically significant.

Weight gain after the age of 25 made little difference to type 2 diabetes risk compared with the risk based on current BMI in middle age, being around twofold higher for each incremental 5kg/m2 BMI in both cases.
