Weight loss a pregnancy boost in PCOS

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome are much more likely to fall pregnant if they lose weight before trying for a baby, say US researchers.

Around a quarter of PCOS women randomised to a four-month program designed to reduce their weight by 7% gave birth to a healthy baby, after ovulation induction and timed intercourse over four cycles.

This compared with a 12% success rate for those who were given 16 weeks of
