Western diet increases RA risk

A meat-heavy Western diet increases the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, compared with a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, US research shows.

The study of 93,859 women without RA found a typical Western diet high in red meat, processed meat, refined grains, fried food, high-fat dairy and sweets can increase a person’s risk of RA in comparison to a ‘Prudent’ diet consisting of fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, poultry and fish.
