What role for psychiatrists in palliative care?

Psychiatrists don’t receive adequate training in looking after patients with a terminal illness, say Sydney researchers.

Their survey of 17 trainee psychiatrists showed a lack of confidence in treating dying patients and an educational “famine” in this area of psychiatry.

Participants expressed a strong desire for more training and mentorship, including input from palliative care physicians.
