WHO clarifies PrEP guidelines
The director of the Center for Public Health and Human Rights at Johns Hopkins University and International AIDS Society president-elect, Professor Chris Beyrer, said the guidelines represent an important advance both in public health and in human rights and there is strong evidence supporting PrEP.
But he said some media reporting had taken the recommendations out of context.
“We have had some concerns and we have heard from the community some concerns about the initial media response to this information, which has somehow implied quite mistakenly that WHO had recommended PrEP for all MSM. What these guidelines say very explicitly is it is an additional prevention option that should be considered based on the scientific evidence for men who want it.”
