An Australian meta-analysis has confirmed national guidelines that suggest replacing fruit juices with plain water as part of a weight reduction strategy.

The researchers from the University of Sydney crunched the data from 11 randomised trials looking at the effect of whole fruit or fruit juice consumption on adiposity.

They found over the long term (3-10 years), intake of whole fruit helps prevent weight gain in middle-aged people from highly developed countries such as Australia.
