Why isn’t pertussis vaccination in the woman-held antenatal record?

PERTUSSIS vaccination in the third trimester of pregnancy needs to be embedded in routine care – such as a checkbox in a woman’s antenatal record, specialists say.

In a review of how well evidence for maternal pertussis vaccination is being implemented, obstetricians and infectious diseases physicians say uptake is variable, from 26-62% in 2015.

Part of the problem is that antenatal health care providers don’t see vaccination as within their remit, say the authors who include Professor Euan Wallace from Monash Health and Professor Jim
