Why siblings need help

Adolescent and young adult siblings of people with cancer experience high levels of psychological distress, according to an Australian study.

This could be linked to fears associated with death, the sibling with cancer being away from home and parents having less time to spend with the sibling without cancer.

The ill sibling’s relapse and treatment status are key predictors of distress, according to a survey of 106 siblings conducted by the Canteen youth charity.
