Women underrepresented in interventional cardiology

Women are underrepresented in interventional cardiology despite an increase in the number of female cardiologists and medical students, according to a survey.

More than 90% of interventional cardiologists are men, even though 60% of medical students in Europe are women, the researchers note in their survey of 1787 European cardiologists.

Around 29% of women surveyed cite a lack of opportunity as the reason they did not choose interventional cardiology, followed by 20%
