Yoga beneficial for knee arthritis: meta-analysis

Improvements across a range of measures

Practicing yoga can benefit patients with knee arthritis, possibly regardless of type, a meta-analysis suggests.

In what may be the first meta-analysis on the topic, Chinese researchers examined the results of 13 clinical trials comparing yoga to a control.

Totalling more than 1500 patients, seven trials were on people with knee osteoarthritis, five were on people with knee rheumatoid arthritis, while one trial included both categories.

Results across a range of outcomes favoured doing yoga over control – which for most of the studies was being on a wait list.
