Young-onset type 2 diabetes flags high CVD risk

Patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes before they reach the age of 40 have double or triple the risk of mortality from the disease than those with older onset, specialists warn.

And although mortality from CVD has fallen in middle-aged and older people with type 2 diabetes over the past decade, this reduction has not been seen in young-onset patients, according to The Dark Heart of Diabetes, a Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute report.
