An age-old problem: what to do about declining immunity and vaccination

Infectious disease expert discusses the challenges of immunosenescence

In this short explainer video, leading infectious disease expert Professor Tony Cunningham discusses the growing problem and health implications of immunosenescence, also known as age-related decline in immunity. 

"Ageing affects all aspects of the immune system," says Prof Cunningham, who is based at the University of Sydney.

"We know that older people, particularly over the age of 60-65, are adversely affected by a number of common infections including influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, shingles and Covid-19.
