Why diabetic retinopathy is set to surge

More than 700,000 Australians with diabetes are predicted to develop some form of eye disease in the next 20 years if left untreated, according to Diabetes Australia.

GPs play a central role in diagnosing and managing diabetic retinopathy, which affects half of patients with diabetes, according to Professor Paul Mitchell, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology & Eye Health at Westmead Clinical School at the University of Sydney.
