Accompany antibiotics with probiotics

They help maintain or restore gut ecology.

Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD) is a common problem. While antibiotics combat pathological or harmful bacteria, they can also disturb normal GI flora, causing symptoms such as diarrhoea in up to 30% of patients. AAD is a common cause for stopping antibiotics.

A recent meta-analysis of 63 RCTs covering 12,000 participants found a statistically significant reduction in the risk of AAD when probiotics were used with antibiotics (RR 0.58;P<.001) in all age groups. 1
