ONLY 25% of new mothers are exclusively breastfeeding just 10 weeks after discharge from hospital.1

The Australian Government recommends exclusive breastfeeding for six months and then continued breastfeeding until 12 months while solids are being introduced.2 

A West Australian study found that the proportion of mothers exclusively breastfeeding at discharge from hospital, then at six weeks, 10 weeks, and 24 weeks was 69%, 27%, 21%, and 1% respectively. At six months <1% of mothers were exclusively breastfeeding.1
