Can tai chi reduce the risk of falls?
Mary, a 64-year-old widow, presented for routine cervical screening and, as part of a ‘well woman’ check, we discussed the risks and benefits of screening for osteoporosis.
She had gone through the menopause relatively early, in her early 40s. She used menopausal hormone therapy for two years but ceased when her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Mary’s physical exercise included running several times a week and two sessions a week of lunges, stair climbing and training with light weights. Her BMI was 22 and vitamin D level was 120.
