Consumption of vegetables and wholegrains have fallen dramatically; it's time to bite back against the misinformation

The media’s appetite for stories and controversy can confuse patients about which foods they should be eating.

I suspect many GPs would sigh as much as I do when headlines proclaim that ‘butter is back'; ‘bacon and eggs for breakfast again' or ‘eggs as bad as smoking'; ‘why vegetable oil will kill you'; ‘slim by chocolate'; ‘the magic of coconut oil'; ‘saturated fats are forgiven'; or some claim about the latest ‘superfood' or supplement.
Dramatic headlines are not really surprising when the media thrive on keeping us entertained. ‘News' that can be
