Herbs helpful for type 2 diabetes

A recent systematic review including 20 RCTs found low-carbohydrate, low-GI, Mediterranean and high-protein (nuts, fish, legume) diets were effective in reducing cardiovascular risk in patients with T2DM. 1 Findings from the Nurses’ Health Study and Health Professionals Study over a four-year period also found higher consumption of coffee lowered the risk of T2DM, but not changes in tea consumption. 2

Recent meta-analyses suggest herbs may play a role in T2DM. Cinnamon in high doses was shown to reduce fasting plasma
