Internal disc disruption

A primary care view of diagnosis and management of low back pain

According to the Global Burden of Disease study, the number one cause of years lived with disability from non-communicable disease in Australia in 1990 and again in 2013 was low back and neck pain.1

Depression claimed second position, and "other musculoskeletal" conditions third spot in both years. Thus, musculoskeletal problems make up two of the top three causes of disability in this country.

Low back pain is the single most common cause of musculoskeletal disability, with the leading cause of persistent low back pain in Australia being internal disc disruption.
