Clearly in pain, Vanda nursed her right side, and told me she had no memory of the night before.
She had woken up unable to take a breath without agony. A quick examination confirmed a fractured rib.
Without prompting, she disclosed that she had a problem with alcohol.
She had attempted rehab a number of times and failed; her nights were spent drinking until she passed out.
"I'm broken," she exhaled.
