Vitamins may assist people with HIV

Nutritional status and micronutrient intake may play a role in reducing disease progression.

A recent randomised controlled trial among asymptomatic, antiretroviral-naive, HIV-infected adults (N=878) in Botswana found 24 month supplementation of a multivitamin combined with selenium, when started in the early stages of HIV disease, significantly reduced the risk of immune decline based on reaching a CD4 cell count of 250/µL or less and reduced the risk of secondary events compared with placebo. 2
