Blog brainchild to help Indigenous health

The ‘Supertwision’ blog is the brainchild of GP supervisor Dr Tim Senior and GP registrar Dr Michael Bonning, who both work at the Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation medical practice in South West Sydney.

Dr Senior, who is also a medical advisor in the RACGP National Faculty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, said that the project grew out of a “shared interest” between the two doctors in using social media in medicine.

The blog project aims to have medical students and registrars asking questions about Indigenous health and general practice, with the home page inviting readers to “join a new experiment in social media and medical education”.

“It seemed an ideal opportunity to try something new. I’ve always been interested in trying to describe and demystify what it is that GPs do and why they are effective,” Dr Senior told MO.
