Doctors obliged to report unfit drivers: Coroner
Coroner Glenn Hay found that a 61-year-old man was killed in March last year when an oncoming car drifted onto the wrong side of the road, causing a collision with the B-double truck he was driving.
While the driver of the car survived, the impact caused the truck driver to lose control of his vehicle, which ended up overturned and on fire. He was unable to escape and died as a result of conflagration.
Mr Hay’s said the car’s female driver had no memory of the crash due to the injuries she sustained. She had a history of symptoms including seizures, episodic dizziness, loss of consciousness and severe migraine coupled with photophobia.
While Mr Hay said he could not rule out that the woman was distracted or asleep at the wheel, he said there was little evidence to suggest either possibility.
