Dramatic drop in genital warts after HPV vax
Comparing data from 85,000 patients who attended eight Australian sexual health clinics, researchers found the rate of genital wart diagnoses fell dramatically from 11.5% in 2007 before the vaccine was introduced, to just 0.85% (13 cases) in 2011, in women under 21.
In this group, none of the 235 women who reported being vaccinated were found to have genital warts.
UK sexual health experts wrote in an editorial accompanying the study that it was "worth celebrating the extraordinary success of Australia’s national HPV vaccination program".
