Global warming linked to deaths

In a report last week, 60 researchers warned climate change would have devastating impacts on the health of Australians as the world warms by a predicted minimum of two degrees over the next century.

They fear extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and cyclones will affect Australia’s food security while ecosystem changes will increase disease. Other threats include heat waves: 374 people died from heat-related problems in the week before the Black Saturday fires in Victoria, more than double the number who perished in the fires.
