High risks with wearing contact lenses overnight

In a survey of 800 single use lens wearers in the US, the UK, Norway and Australia – funded by eye care manufacturer Alcon – researchers found high rates of noncompliance with replacement advice, ranging from 18% in Australia to 4% in Norway.

Some 28% of people reported sleeping overnight while wearing contact lenses and this rose to 48% among under-25s.

Overnight wear has been associated with higher rates of inflammation and infection and may explain the association between DDCL
