Insulin pumps an improvement, but still a way to go

Diabetes patients fare better on insulin pumps compared to their former regimen of multiple insulin injections, but most still face ongoing problems of discomfort and poor glucose control, a UK study has found.

A survey of 360 current users of open loop continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion found that most had well controlled blood glucose, according to their HbA1c results. The findings published in the journal Practical Diabetes also showed that most users had experienced improvement in blood glucose control when they switched from insulin injections to an insulin pump.
