Pet distraction a risk for elderly motorists

The distraction of mobile phone use in cars is well-documented as a crash risk factor, conferring a fourfold increased risk, according to research.

Now researchers have examined sharing the car with a pet as a risk for people aged older than 70.

They found those who always drove with their pets had double the risk of a crash compared to those never driving with their pets.
