Non-healing wounds point to poor venous function
Ross is a fit and active 72-year-old male who has had worsening wounds to his lower legs, especially on the right. 1
Apart from well-controlled hypertension, his only medical history is an unprovoked DVT in the right leg two years ago, which was appropriately treated with apixaban. He works part-time as a butcher. 1
For the last year, he has had healing and relapsing wounds to both legs, but now has had large chronic wounds for five months. The wounds are tender and weep large amounts of fluid.
He is doing daily dressings himself, with community nurses attending three times weekly.
