Persistent pruritus points to a hidden malignancy

When a patient presents with persistent itch but no rash, normal pathology results fail to scratch the surface of his underlying malignancy

Nick, a 28-year-old male, presents with a primary complaint of generalised itching for the past 3-4 weeks.

He reports no accompanying rash and denies recent use of new skin care or laundry products.

The itch is relatively constant throughout the day and night — occasionally disrupting his sleep.

Nick denies other symptoms, including rhinitis, abdominal pain, lip or eyelid swelling, night sweats, weight loss or fevers.
