GP VMOs Wanted: Discover Tasmania’s Hidden Gems & Practice Rural Medicine With Purpose
Tired of the city grind? How about waking up to ocean air, rolling hills, or rugged mountain peaks? From coastal islands to charming country towns, Tasmania offers a mix of serenity, adventure, and truly meaningful medicine.
We’re seeking passionate, community-minded GP VMOs to join multiple sites across regional and remote Tasmania, including Smithton, St Marys, Scottsdale, Queenstown, Flinders Island, and King Island. Whether you’re after mountains or beaches (or both), there’s a place here for you.
About the Locations
Our practices are the heart of their communities—offering everything from everyday GP consults to hospital-based emergency and inpatient care. You’ll be part of a strong, collegial team, often working alongside nurses, paramedics, allied health professionals, and visiting specialists.
Each site offers a unique rural experience:
- Smithton – Dairy country meets ocean breeze.
- St Marys – Peaceful village nestled beneath a mountain range.
- Scottsdale – A vibrant hub near vineyards and world-class mountain bike trails.
- Queenstown – A historic mining town with striking wilderness.
- Flinders & King Island – Island life, incredible seafood, and community spirit like no other.
The Role
This isn’t metro medicine. It’s true Rural Generalism—delivering cradle-to-aged care, managing acute presentations, and shaping community health. You’ll get the scope and autonomy you’ve trained for, with support every step of the way.
You’ll be delivering:
- Comprehensive GP services
- Emergency and inpatient care (VMO work)
- Preventative and chronic disease management
- Community health initiatives
Flexible Rosters & Work-Life Balance
From 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off island rotations to full-time GP VMO roles in welcoming regional towns, we’re committed to making the schedule work for you.
Want FIFO? We can chat.
Want to move full-time? Let’s make it happen.

What You’ll Need
- Vocational Registration (FRACGP or FACRRM)Â or progressing toward it
