The MO4 role at DFR works within the Directorate of Recruiting Health Services and supports the strategic and operational direction of CMO

The Role

The MO 4 position is a non-candidate facing, leadership role that supports the DFR Chief Medical Officer (CMO) by providing subject matter expert advice and ensuring implementation of recruiting medical policies and procedures. The MO4 team works productively with relevant stakeholders to deliver on recruiting objectives outlined in the National Defence Strategy, Defence Workforce Strategy and the Integrated Investment Plan.

The MO 4 duties will include the following:

  • Provide strategic medical leadership to support DFR’s recruitment mission, delivering expert advice on medical fitness determinations, waiver assessments, policy development, and operational decisions.
  • Lead and manage the CMO Office team, fostering a positive culture, cohesion, and accountability while overseeing staff performance and professional development.
  • Oversee training, quality assurance, and research, ensuring high standards in clinical practice, continuous improvement, and alignment with DFR goals.
  • Develop and implement governance frameworks, including clinical standards, procedures, audits, and risk management strategies to support effective medical recruiting operations.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships with Joint Health Command, contractors, and other Defence stakeholders to align medical recruitment outcomes with broader organisational objectives.
  • Prepare high-quality advice and documentation for senior leadership, including briefing notes, reports, and correspondence on policy, performance, and governance matters.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.
